Congratulations to Bubba | This WONDERfilled Life

I’m a pusher.  I don’t sit still.  I get involved.  A “do-bee” as Super likes to call me. Quite honestly I get stuff done.  I’ve struggled the past year or two with being involved with the kids’ school and various organizations and projects.  I took a step back this past year from specific organizations (PTA, Friends of, etc) but fought the urge to “jump in” many times! Old habits die hard!   When it came to Bubba graduating from Kindergarten I struggled even more.  When P was in Kindergarten the pandemic hit, so we didn’t get to experience any of the traditional Kindergarten “rites of passage” and because I swore off being a room parent with more than one other person (his class had like, 15?!?!?) I knew I would have to just sit back and watch some of the planning and event prep from the sideline.  But…I also knew I wanted to make it special for him in some way.  I remember being with Super at breakfast a few weeks before the Kindy celebrati...

The Devil is in the details… | This WONDERfilled Life

The Devil is in the Details When we decided to host a full fledged movie screening event for Hocus Pocus 2 (out now on Disney+) the gears in my head started turning.  I had several ideas, including a Photo Booth, with the iconic hair and lip profiles from our favorite sisters, floating candles and a low mist floating throughout the back yard…but as the ideas took over and time started to fly by I changed course and adapted to a different idea.  If budget were not an issue there are so many things I could do, but I really like the challenge of a small budget.  I thrive on trying to repurpose items as much as possible and using what I have on hand…and if I don’t have it on hand I definitely never mind hitting up the dollar store.  It’s usually really great for smaller items that you can adapt fairly easily to whatever you need.  Case in point these super cute, reusable and extremely affordable ($1ea !!!) skeleton straw cups we got for our Coco party several years...

Vivo! (And I don’t mean the tempo marking.) | This WONDERfilled Life

Image
It’s fall 2021, and I can’t believe we’re still in this mess of a pandemic.  That aside, our lives have sort of resumed something that looks like our life pre-COVID.  Both kids are back in in-person school, and while Super is still teaching from home my orchestral/music work is picking up steadily, though with heavy health protocols (which I am totally okay with). So we thought we’d try and get our outdoor theater up and running, if only for one night and a tiny amount of guests.  Netflix’s animated film, VIVO , came out a few weeks ago and it’s been a HIT here, but then pretty much anything LMM (Lin-Manuel Miranda) does is a hit here…ask me about my current Hamilton obsession! Annnny ways…we decided to just hold a small backyard movie night, and you know I can’t just have people over for something like that.  I have to make it an experienced even just a little one.  Given more time, I had some MAJOR plans for the backyard, which included a kids “Mambo Cubana” C...

Long live Blacklights, Pinatas and Taquitos! | Week 44 | #52wonderfilledweeks

WOW.  Let me say that again. WOW.  The parties were AWESOME...and I have to admit that I stole the title for this blog entry from a friend in attendance at P's "Land of the Dead" Coco party...it really was that fun.  Unfortunately I burned the candle at both ends for a few to many days and I came down with both Strep AND an ear infection, just in time for my birthday...and I have been in bed for about three days straight with the exception of a concert, an audition and a rehearsal! I'm finally able to be upright for longer periods and I am determined to get this #52wonderfilledweeks challenge back on track. I had a few little projects to take care of for our kids party.  I'll share those projects first but be sure to read all the way to the bottom to see how it all came off (spoiler alert, AMAZING). If you missed the previous posts you can catch up here: One week to go, Picado's all a glow! DIY Piñata - ala Disney's Coco Paper, glue and do...
